Artificial Intelligence on Earth Observation Satellites
The project demonstrates the deployment of artificial intelligence in earth observation on satellite platforms. The rapid identification of phenomena directly in space, such as the investigated wildfire (smoke plume) detection in live pictures on the satellite, is essential to enable faster responses to time-critical developments on earth and enables completely new space missions and use cases.
Calibration of Sentinel Land Surface Phenology with Ground Phenological Observations for agricultural applications.
Use of multi-temporal Sentinel-2 and VHR (very-high-resolution) Pleiades stereo data for sustainable forest monitoring and management.
EO4FOREST combined multiple data sets with the following three overarching goals:
(i) Potential evaluation of Sentinel-2 to derive a wide range of forestry parameters and comparison of results with commonly available geospatial data (e.g., orthophotos),
Early stress detection in Austrian ecosystems with sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence.
Three-dimensional reconstruction and classification of high-resolution optical satellite data.
Satfarm-Services
The Satfarm-Services project aims to improve our climate change adaption capabilities in agriculture. The usage of satellite born agricultural indices frequent information on crop vigor, damage and stress and information on soil conditions. The possibilities for potential usages are numerous and are constantly expanded by researchers. However, the access, and the handling of this data is complex and usually not possible for laymen.
Austrian Data Cube
The Austrian Data Cube (ACube) project delivers a prototype system making Copernicus data available to the broader public. The consortium of five Austrian partners introduces a state-of-the-art infrastructure integrating a cloud-based data cube concept for Austria. The data cube concept stores data in a gridded multi-dimensional database capable of providing time-series of highly standardized and harmonized radiometrically and geometrically corrected satellite data.
