Satellite-based Fire Detection Automated System

In 2018, over 335 000 hectares of forest across Europe were destroyed in fires. The ESA-backed SFEDONA project provides a complete end-to-end fire detection and alerting service based, inter alia, on satellite communications and terrestrial optical cameras and sensors.

Solaris S-band - the Future of Mobile Content

The project, which is part of ESA's "Newcomers" initiative of the ARTES 3-4 Programme, is aimed at developing, integrating and validating a set of mobile applications onboard of vehicles such as cars, coaches and trucks, using the S-Band delivery platform of Solaris on the Eutelsat W2A satellite. The mobile applications will allow the reception of geo-localised contents such as traffic information, weather alerts, route planning and tourism related content, in association with specific news broadcasting.

Safe Emergency Landing In Alpine Terrain

Based on EO, SatNav and SatCom data, SELIAT stands for the feasibility study Safe Emergency Landing in Alpine Terrain. It has investigated a service in aviation that shall provide geographic information about suitable landing sites to support off-field landings in alpine areas with difficult terrain. This information will be available to pilots in their cockpit.

Peat Spotter Feasibility Study

Peat Spotter was conceived as a potential data service to provide cost-effective information for sustainable peatland management. The aim of the feasibility study is to reduce the amount of expensive field work required to gather information on peatland location, intactness and carbon content over time. Satellite Support to Forest Fires Airborne Patrol

SAFETREE service represents an innovative approach to optimize the Czech Airborne Fire-fighting Service (AFS). AFS provides the airborne monitoring of Czech forests in order to secure early detection of wildfires, the prevention of the wildfire spread, and to enable airborne firefighting. SAFETREE service is based on integration of Earth Observation monitoring systems and Satellite Navigation technologies to support the AFS in the decision making on airborne patrol dispatch and routing.
