Urban Forest Monitoring Platform

This study assesses the practicalities of collecting improved urban forestry data through the integration of EO satellite imagery and GNSS as well as crowdsourcing and Open Data. New Commons service targets the collection and analysis of urban forestry data for those organisations charged with the management of that resource while also performing an important public awareness and outreach function. This includes academic researchers, arborists, municipal authorities and NGO's.

Space-enabled wind installation site screening

Due to the fact that the onshore wind market should grow strongly over the coming 10 years, and that developers looking to profit from this will need to increase automation so that they can increase their project throughput, SEWISS study aims to reduce time to market and make better site selection/ site purchase decisions thorugh space enabed wind installation site screening. To develop and deliver this service/system, SEWISS must have access to two space assets, earth observation data and satellite navigation (GPS).

Improving the Efficiency in the Insurance Industry

VeriSpace will determine how space assets can be incorporated within the claims management process in the insurance industry. This means using EO datasets to assess extent and severity of the property damage or using GNSS and satellite communications to enable greater transfer of information between a central office and the loss adjustors in the field undertaking claims verification. The target users are Insurers and Loss Adjustors

Electronic Offender Monitoring

The starting point for the study is an EM (Electronic Monitoring) system developed by Geosatis, the sole contractor of this FS. Based on Galileo, EGNOS, Space cartography and Satellite imagery data, the system provides a complete EM solution comprising hardware (GPS ankle bracelet, home-station, mobile charger), as well as a monitoring platform, including a component that displays the location of the offender and various alarms on a map.

Forest Loss Assessment through Remote Evaluation

Global Forestry assets are vulnerable to a range of perils, including wind and fire. Being physically extensive and often located in remote areas, forestry presents challenges to insurance procedures including accurate risk pricing and efficient claims settlement in the event of losses. Based on EO and GNSS data, FLARE has been developed to address these limitations in property, risk and loss assessment.
