In 2020, 389 natural disasters were reported worldwide, killing 15 000 people and affecting 98 million others. The ESA-supported COSPARIN project uses satellite imagery for hazard and vulnerability risk assessments to support real-time wather crisis management and improve disaster resilience and response.

The pilot service is run in close cooperation with the National Health Service (NHS) in regions with similar challenges around rurality and connectivity. The project is directly addressing the challenges in provision of care for mental health issues and diabetes, as well as education of rural General Practitioners.

Construction sites monitoring operational tool

The Buildspot service will monitor the activity at construction sites to detect when building works actually start on the ground using Earth Observation, as opposed to when the planning permits have been obtained. The information can be sold to specialist building data providers and is ultimately used by to sell services to the construction sites such as waste recycling, providing plasterboard etc. The data is also useful for local authorities to monitor real building progress.
