The Tracksat project aims at developing a tracking service for drone operators and other aerial vehicles subject to accidental landings. The starting-point is a 2G-only device that is used for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLoS) operations. By introducing a satcom link, drones and other aerial vehicles can be recovered from areas outside the coverage of terrestrial
networks. The Tracksat service is initially focusing on professional drones, but also address pilots of recreational planes and gliders that require a personal tracking service, rather than aerial vehicle transponder or a Search and Rescue device. The service is developed in partnership with Astrocast, which has developed a compact Sat-IoT transceiver for delaytolerant narrowband applications.
