According to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals Extended Report 2024, agricultural expansion is the primary driver behind almost 90 percent of global deforestation. The WorldAgroCommodities project uses Earth Observation data to monitor deforestation risks from key agricultural commodities and supports the deforestation regulation.

WorldAgroCommodities project is developing an innovative Earth Observation (EO)-based monitoring system to track and assess deforestation risks associated with key agricultural commodities—such as cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, soy, rubber, and wood.
In support of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the system uses satellite data from the Copernicus programme and other EO sources to detect deforestation events, helping Competent National Authorities (CNAs) verify that imported goods are deforestation-free. The goal is to offer a cloud-native, open-source, and scalable solution for global deforestation risk assessment.
The project follows a user-centred design approach, working in close collaboration with early adopters—including national authorities, supply chain actors, and EO experts—to co-create practical, policy-relevant tools.
