VIDA analyses a set of EO information layers derived from both Sentinel-1 and -2 satellite imagery, publicly available EO layers and household survey data in combination with machine learning-based algorithms to estimate demographic, economic and growth indicators of the village level to enable microgrids site identification. It reduces the need to conduct timeconsuming and expensive on-ground surveys to locate potential sites. The tool can be tailored to any village in the world as well as to different microgrid technologies such as solar, biomass or hydro powered microgrids.
