Satellite Technologies for Improved Drought-Risk Assessment

Drought risk management systems are mostly restricted, because drought information is not linked to socioeconomic impacts, such as crop failure or food insecurity. SATIDA solves this problem by combining satellite-derived drought hazard information with food security assessments. These assessments are conducted by vulnerable communities in the world's most drought-prone regions via a smartphone app.

The practical added value of SATIDA for end users, mostly aid organizations, is that the system enables 1) a more accurate detection of drought conditions through the combination of various satellite data and 2) an earlier detection of drought conditions that might result in severe food insecurity.
