Rapid Action for Citizens with Earth Observation

Launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Commission in response to the COVID-19 crisis, RACE (Rapid Action for Citizens with Earth Observation) is a flagship initiative that showcases the potential of Earth Observation (EO) to address pressing societal challenges.

RACE provides an interactive dashboard offering open access to a broad range of environmental and socio-economic indicators, using data from Copernicus Sentinel missions, third-party satellite missions, and ground-based observations. Key focus areas include air quality, agriculture, mobility, manufacturing, and broader impacts of the pandemic.

The platform includes tools such as Jupyter Notebooks and tutorials, enabling both expert and non-expert users to explore and leverage EO data. Since its rebranding in 2022, RACE has expanded its role in promoting open innovation, enhancing public understanding of EO, and fostering collaboration with European industry and civil society.
