The micro weather service (MW Service) main purpose is to
overcome the limitations of the present weather forecasts used
in aviation by providing high resolution “nowcasts”. The new
service enables significantly improved alertness and situational
awareness increasing the effectiveness of the local Air Traffic
Control (ATC) and Air Navigation Services (ANS) operations.
In general, it caters for a significantly improved airport
throughput simultaneously improving the air traffic safety.
Additionally, MW Service uses the aircraft position and
dynamical data to predict encounters with severe weather
phenomena.
