Transforming Diagnostic Imaging

The TRANSDIM demonstration project ambitions to develop and demonstrate a novel type of medical imaging system by scaling-up a dental imaging X-ray source for use in imaging the chest at the bedside in the Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments as well as in intensive care units of care centres but also for earlier diagnosis of cancer. The main idea behind having a more compact device and transportable device is to enable more patients to be imaged in primary care rather than travelling to main hospitals. The product uses technologies derived from those initially developed for a number of Space missions such as the Ptolemy device on the Philae lander of ESA's Rosetta mission.
