Tackling Transport Poverty in Towns and Small Cities

Tandem is creating a carpooling service leveraging local taxi companies to provide an affordable transport option to low-income workers impacted by "transport poverty" in small towns and cities where traditional public transport is inadequate, unaffordable or inaccessible. The journeys are expected to be subsidised by local partners or so-called "Journey Generators", such as temporary employment agencies, who are incentivised to enable these people to make such journeys (for example to place staff in large out-of-town industrial parks). Tandem will rely on GNSS technologies to enable real-time location information of users and drivers, an integral feature of the service.
