Synergetic surveys using unmanned maritime systems and satellites

The SyriUS project builds on a feasibility study aimed at providing a more efficient and accurate solution to survey bathymetry, seafloor properties and seafloor habitats as well as to monitor algal blooms in the water column. It targets the creation of synergetic surveys using unmanned maritime systems (UMS) and satellites. SyriUS combines the satellite-derived information provided by the EOMAP with in-situmeasured data obtained from Maritime Robotics' UMS, in particular unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), to provide two new services for delivering bathymetric data and seafloor characterisation. The service will leverage on the strength of combining the large area coverage capability provided by satellites with the high accuracy of USV-gathered in-situ data. The SyriUS user communities include hydrographic offices, navies, offshore industries, port authorities, dredging and marine engineering firms, land and marine based mapping institutes, environmental agencies, policy makers, marine nature management, fisheries, fresh-water reservoir management, and scientists.
