Satellite supported financial inclusion for smallholders

The SSFIS project addresses the non-functioning market for capital allocation to smallholders. It aims at providing information about where capital can be directed with the highest expected value creation and about how capital investments affect individuals, organizations, and communities, and in doing so, close the information gap. Key clients are informed agricultural buyers/producers with a vested interest in smallholders. These large, often multinational, companies are reliant on smallholders to source a proportion of their produce. Therefore, any yield increases that the smallholders can gain will ultimately also benefit the buyer who they trade with. Main users are credit providers including financial institutions providing credit to smallholders, large agribusinesses, and technology providers. The service uses satellite data to provide insights for agriculture in the sector of smallholder's credit risk assessment.
