Integrated service for runoff and hydropower assessment and forecast related to snow cover dynamics in remote aeras

The SnowSense DP service aims at improving the measurement of the water stored in the snow cover in remote areas. It uses a GNSS based in-situ snow monitoring system in combination of existing technologies such as EO and water balance modelling in order to fill the gaps of knowledge of the SWE (Snow Water Equivalent) and Liquid Water Content measurements in remote or mountainous areas. The service targets operational hydrological users in areas where snow has significant impact on the run-off generation such as commercial users in charge for Renewable Energy Production by managing hydro power plants or public users in charge for public safety by early warning. The service uses several space assets such as EO, GNSS and satellite communications in order to improve snow monitoring.
