Monitoring railway track geometry and its surroundings

The RailSAT service aims at achieving a supportive continuous monitoring of the entire railway network and at delivering significant ongoing savings in conventional monitoring and maintenance costs with minimal upfront investment. The objective is to help asset managers to improve the performance of the railway network, including the operational efficiencies and safety, through the maximization of the availability and reliability of rail tracks and through accurate rail tracks condition monitoring. The service uses wide area satellite data to identify hotspots for more intense monitoring activity. Main users are asset managers, service providers and engineering companies involved in railway infrastructure maintenance. The product uses satellite monitoring in order to provide asset managers and infrastructure owners with services that cover the total network in a non-intrusive manner. Also, compared to existing ground-based inspections, satellite-based Earth observation data is available in a much higher frequency.
