Space-based services supporting financial inclusion for smallholders

The Project Impactor service aims at creating investment opportunities and at increasing smallholders' access to finance by improving the risk assessment capabilities of investors, financial institutions and other stakeholders within the agricultural sector. The service uses satellite data (satellite remote sensing technologies and satellite positioning) in order to provide investors and financial institutions with relevant and useful information about the location of smallholders, the quality of their crops or the environmental risks related to climate change, disease, drought and floods. The end users of the service are smallholders who are in need of credit. The service uses satellite data in order to create crop maps like cocoa/coffee and performance information.
