Innovative antenna for increased accuracy for driverless cars

NEXTGEN GNSS is a multi-frequency/multi-constellation GNSS antenna aiming at providing centimetric accuracy and intended initially for use in the driverless car market. The antenna is based on proprietary dielectrically-loaded, multi-filar helix antenna technology and is optimised for use with the Galileo E1 and E5 AltBOC waveforms. The proposed antenna will provide multi-frequency operation and, by fully exploiting the benefits of the Galileo AltBOC waveforms, provide substantially higher performance levels than competing technologies, such as stacked patch technology, at a price commensurate with automotive industry expectations. The construction process also enables the fabrication of antennas which are smaller than conventional antennas with a far smaller field signature and which enables operation in challenging user environments such as those found in driverless cars.
