Off-grid, carbon-free electrical energy produced by solar panels and electrolyser/fuel cell system

The European Astronaut Centre (EAC) in Cologne is currently establishing a simulator (analogue) of a lunar surface and an associated habitat. This habitat will be supplied with off-grid, carbon-free electrical energy produced by a solar panel and electrolyser/fuel cell system, which corresponds to an energy generation and storage system that can be expected for a human outpost on the Moon. The system is currently being established in an international public-private-partnership. This specific application is an obvious "island-solution" and as such offers technological synergies with terrestrial "island" applications. Moreover, the thematic context of human space exploration offers a significant outreach/promotion value for such kind of clean energy solutions.
