Dangerous waste tracking and tracing

The DW-TRAC service aims at tracking and tracing cross-border shipments of dangerous waste. The service allows to monitor the shipment of hazardous waste to avoid illegal activities, ensuring the concerned authorities that the transport is legal and follows the defined route. It mainly targets waste producers and managers; local, regional and national governmental authorities controlling waste transports; and the relevant emergency services in case of accidents. The DW-TRAC service uses both satellite navigation and satellite communication. The space assets allow to track the position of the truck carrying the waste and to transmit the location and additional information between the truck and the DW-TRAC service centre in areas without terrestrial mobile connectivity.
