According to the OECD, the demand for real-time, participatory, and geospatially explicit indicators is rapidly growing, particularly in support of urban resilience, sustainable mobility, and climate-smart policy-making.

The IDEAS project implemented by Sistema (AT) in partnership with Murmuration (FR) and EOX (AT), was designed to explore how emerging cross-cutting technologies—such as gamification, OpenStreetMap APIs, and citizen-contributed data—can be effectively combined with Earth Observation to enhance the societal value of environmental and socio-economic indicators.

IDEAS focused on generating indicators that capture phenomena of high societal relevance, going beyond traditional EO-only approaches by integrating participatory and digital tools. The project developed and validated five indicators, covering topics such as urban green space access, mobility and emissions perception, and community-driven environmental reporting.
