Satellite based algae monitoring system for German authorities.

Algal blooms are clearly visible signs of the multiple pressures on our inland waters. They occur so quickly and on such a large scale that traditional monitoring strategies cannot capture them properly. Remote sensing of rivers and lakes enables the detection of chlorophyll-a concentrations over large areas and offers the potential for the fast detection of algae blooms. It can provide information in near real-time to stakeholders and the general public. We pave the way for German authorities to detect algae blooms at an early stage based on remote sensing. Our project addresses SDG by providing relevant information on aquatic ecosystems and human use of water resources.
