Development of Tools for Interferometric Processing of Sentinel-1 TOPS Mode data for Ground Motion Monitoring.

The project was concerned with the development of interferometric tools for generation of products on surface motion and deformation using Copernicus Sentinel-1 (S1) SAR data. The S1 SAR Terrain Observation by Progressive Scans (TOPS) operation mode of the Interferometric Wide Swath (IWS) data enables high resolution repeat monitoring of extended areas on the Earth surface. For the utilization of TOPS mode data specific software was developed, implemented and tested, providing the basis for comprehensive monitoring of surface displacement for a wide range of applications.

The tools, developed and tested in the project, provide the basis for efficient, regular exploitation of Sentinel-1 SAR time series over extended areas. The performance and broad applicability of the tools was demonstrated and evaluated in the project, addressing comprehensive mapping of surface motion on glaciers and ice sheets, and surveys of surface deformation in landslide and subsidence areas. The developed software is the basis for ongoing ENVEO contributions to extensive Sentinel-1 based services in the fields of climate monitoring and hydrology.
