High Quality Earth Observation enriched Global Seas Current data for the Shipping Companies and their Service Providers

Global Seas is based on the outcome of the ESA IAP's Blue SIROS Feasibility Study. This project aims to develop a product that delivers earth observation enriched high-quality data on ocean currents and other valuable metocean data, tailored for application in the shipping sector, with the purpose of making shipping more fuel efficient and to better manage fleets. The product is based on combining satellite earth observation data with numerical models via data assimilation and data fusion techniques. The project develops an improved model to predict surface ocean currents and implements Global Seas as a robust cloud-based operational service, which makes access to all metocean data easy and intuitive via a flexible and efficient data access design.
