Accelerometer System for Pavement Evaluation

The aim of the project is to develop a service that uses multiple smartphones on-board of driving cars to acquire measurements of the shaking level using accelerometers and gyroscopes. This information can be then translated into indicators determining the evenness of the road surface and the comfort of driving using data filtering algorithms, mechanical suspension models and machine learning methods. The system will collect data on road unevenness using ordinary cars. The method of measurement and measured surface features will take into account the phenomena specific to urban roads: sewage wells, speed bumps, numerous patches and longitudinal and transverse irregularities. The key customers segments targeted by ASPEN2 are: administrators and operators at all levels of the road network and companies providing services in the field of surface diagnostics and traffic analysis, in Poland, Germany and other European countries. These groups of customers will demonstrate ASPEN2 functionalities during demonstrations carried out in Poland and Germany. At a later stage, the service and solution will be exported to other countries.
